The South African Medical Association and the South African Private Practitioners Association have rejected the tariff guidelines announced by the Health Professions Council.

They say this year’s tariffs are not only 53-percent less than the Council’s 2007 tariffs, they are also five-percent less than Sama’s own 2003 tariffs.

Doctors are expected to earn less than in 2003.

Inflation has increased by 55 percent and medical scheme contributions have effectively escalated by 105 percent.
