WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has challenged President Barack Obama to end what he called a witch-hunt against his whistle-blowing website.

Assange spoke yesterday from the balcony of the Ecuadorean embassy in London where he has sought refuge from arrest.

Assange accused the United States of risking shunting the world into an era of journalistic oppression.

The 41-year-old is fighting being extradited to Sweden on sexual assault charges.
