The Western Cape Education Department said it is concerned by the increasing number of cheating during exams.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said learners have been cautioned about cheating during exams.

Those found to be cheating will be dealt with accordingly as it has been done in the past.

The WCED said there has been an increase over the years of cribbing or taking a cellphone into the exam room.

Casey said in 2012 senior exam 17 candidates were disqualified as compared to 2011 where 6 candidates were disqualified.

Casey added that learners caught cheating in whatever grade will have to face the school’s assessment committee.
