The Democratic Alliance on Monday submitted in Parliament an urgent question to the Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa.

This is about whether at any point the presence of Muammar Gaddafi’s former Chief of Staff, Bashir Saleh in the country was brought to the Minister’s attention and why he was not detected and arrested on entering and leaving the country.

DA MP of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said that the National Police Spokesperson alleged he had not been aware of Saleh’s presence in the country.

“This is despite media reports that Saleh has been spotted at several occasions in South Africa including at the ANC’s centenary dinner in 2012, and more recently at the Brics summit in Durban.

“As Gaddafi’s former Chief of Staff, Saleh was personally responsible for diverting billions of public funds to enrich the Gadaffi regime Rarnard added.
