North West Premier Thandi Modise has called on Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union and National Union of Mineworkers to condemn violence and commit themselves to peaceful coexistence at Lonmin and other mines around Rustenburg.

This follows the killing of one mine and another was injured in clashes on Monday.

Premier Modise’s Spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele said the use of violence in the labour relation regime that allows freedom of association is not allowed.

Kgwele further said the Premier has called for workers to remain calm and assist police in their investigation in order to unmask those behind the recent violence.

He added that acts of intolerance and violence can only serve to weaken them taking up genuine issues against their employers.
