The Western Cape Department of Health has installed safety and security mechanisms at the Hanover Park Community Health Centre.

This is after a shooting incident at the center in October this year which prompted the department to temporarily close the facility for a few days.

Provincial Health Department Principal Communications Officer Sithembiso Magubane said metal cladding has been installed and found to be impenetrable to direct fire from various weapons.

Magubane said the surveillance camera has been installed and the installation of the steel protection fence is nearing completion.  The cost of the security installation has cost the department R635 000 so far.
