Two separate horrific accidents this morning in Laingsburg claimed the lives of six people in total.

In the first incident a bakkie and a minibus taxi collided head-on into each other 14km outside Laingsburg.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said both vehicles burnt out totally and four people died in this accident, three in the motor vehicle and the driver of the taxi.

In the second accident just outside Laingsburg two trucks were involved in a head-on collision and burst into flames.

One of the trucks was carrying plastic crates filled with paper on the back which is made it difficult to extinguish the fire.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said both vehicles caught alight and the drivers of the trucks died.

Africa added that the road had to be closed for several hours to clear the accident scene.
