Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane today said various departments within government is currently investigating what happened regarding the sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service.
It is alleged that this is not the first
time complaints have emerged about this same interpreter identified as
Thamsanqa Jantjie.
Chabane said government is looking into
this matter but it has not been able to conclude this inquiry due to the
schedule to organise the state funeral for the former president.
Chabane added that government will report
publicly on any information that may be established and wishes to assure South
Africans that government is clear in defending the rights and dignity of people
with disability.
