The National Union of Mineworkers
has entered into a two year wage agreement with Anglo platinum mine.
Num Spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said
workers in categories A to B2 will receive an increase of 8.5 %, workers in
categories B3 to B7 will receive an 8 % increase in year one and workers in C
to D1 will receive an increase of 7.5 %.
The increases will also result in
increases in allowances.
Seshoka added that the workers will
be back paid from July the 1st and they will be paid on the 19th
on December 2013 and the workers that will be paid are Num members only because
other unions did not want to take part in the negotiations.
Meanwhile
at the Northam Platinum it’s a different picture whereby the strike over wage
continues.
The
strike has been going on for seven weeks and according to the National Union of
Mineworkers the strike has shuttered the company and exposed the poor
management and leadership skills of the company’s Chief Executive Officer.
Num
Spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said the workers are prepared to go ahead with the
strike and there will no operation until their demands have been met.
