The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the new amendments made to the Employment Equity Regulations when it comes to demographics.

President of the Chamber Janine Myburgh said the regulations would have forced companies to appoint members of different race groups to management in the same proportion as they feature in the national demographics.

Myburgh said we objected to these on the grounds they were unrealistic and unfair especially in the Western Cape where the coloured population would be severely disadvantaged.

“Now we are allowed to employ men or women best able to do the jobs regardless of the race. The operational requirements of the business must come first.” Myburgh added.
