The Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has called for increase security at South African Social Security Agency offices across the province.

This follows an incident during the weekend whereby a SASSA paypoint was attacked by criminals.

MEC Plato said it is important that Saps implements a strategy to ensure the safety of those coming to collect much needed payouts.

Ministerial Spokesperson Greg Wagner said this is not the first incident of shooting at a paypoint and this means that criminals have identified a soft spot.
