Waters: Social Development failing to protect children

The Democratic Alliance has stated that the Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini is failing to protect the children in the country.

DA MP of Social Development Mike Waters said he will be submitting questions to the minister to ascertain whether her department has received the report on the Child Protection Register done by the South African Human Rights Commission.

Waters said they have ignored our plea and the report itself which contains some very important recommendations which we believe the department should be implementing to improve the register and the effectiveness of the register.

“Currently we only have 480 names on the register which means that we adding one name every few days to the register and given the fact that we have tens of thousands of child rapes every year, this is a disgrace.” Waters added.
