A man hacked his girlfriend to death with a panga in Mossel Bay on Wednesday. The man gained entry to the house through the window of her parents’ home.
He allegedly chopped her, moved down on her parents, his daughters aged 4 and 7 and her 10-year-old son.
While attacking the mother, her 10-year-old boy jumped out the window and went to alert neighbours, who then called the police.
Police spokesperson Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe said that when police arrived at the scene the man had already fled.
Independent Online reports that the woman died of serious head and bodily injuries at the scene while her parents and the three children are being treated at the Mossel Bay provincial hospital.
He is expected to appear in the Mossel Bay magistrate's court on Friday.
