Education MEC Cameron Dugmore has announced that that the department is going to launch a comprehensive campaign.
This campaign is aimed at parents encouraging them to enrol their children in classes where they are taught in their mother tongue.
The campaign forms part of the numeracy and literacy campaign.
The biggest challenge that the department faces is to make parents understand that the concept of mother tongue education is best.
Gert Witbooi spokesperson for Dugmore told the Cape Times that teaching a chid in another language other than their mother tongue puts them at a disadvantage.
The department plans to launch the campaign this month.
