DTI: Compliance a major concern for liquor outlets

Officials from the Western Cape Department of Trade and Industry held an inspection blitz over the weekend which resulted in six illegal liquor outlets being closed down.

The department’s officials raided over sixty outlets in different areas around the province including Delft, Kraaifontein and Mitchell’s Plain. Director of Legal Support and Prosecutions at the dti’s National Liquor Authority Advocate Sandile Nkosi said South Africans at large need to work together to combat and ensure that there is compliance.

Nkosi said one of the important things of the operation was to ensure that people are trading to what their license stated and close down those that are trading without license. Most of the time during these operations we are looking at clubs, taverns and distributors.

“It is alarming people are not complying with their license and they also claim that they did not know what they needed to do, which is unacceptable” Nkosi added.
