The South African Police Service in the Western Cape has appointed a senior police official to investigate a video of two police officials involved in an altercation with a civilian.
The newly appointed senior
police official is situated at the district level of the province and is set to
probe an investigation in terms of the SAPS disciplinary code into the
conduct of the two officials captured in a video during the heated altercation.
According to police`s statement, the two policemen that
were recorded in the video work at Fish Hoek SAPS and responded to a
missing person complaint in the area.
In the meantime, criminal investigations into the conduct
of SAPS members fall within the range of the IPID and this has resulted in SAPS
internal investigation to investigate if members had flouted any disciplinary
prescripts that relate to the conduct of police members.
One of the policemen in the video have opened a case of
assault against the man in the video and the man has responded by opening
an assault GBH case against the police officials. The man is currently in
hospital.
SAPS say further investigations are underway.
