Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has suspended Councillor Malusi Booi, a member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements Mayco. This follows a search and seizure operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) on March 15 in city offices.

Mayor Hill-Lewis said the SAPS informed him that the corruption and fraud investigation is at an early stage, but is potentially serious.

“In the interim, I have appointed Alderman James Vos as Acting Mayco Member for Human Settlements. I have further assured the SAPS of the City's full support in the ongoing investigation,” said Mayor Hill-Lewis.

The City is currently awaiting further information from authorities on the reasons behind the search and seizure operation by the SAPS.
