The City of Cape Town has lifted its precautionary boil water notice to residents in the deep South.
On Wednesday, the municipality said that residents in
Noordhoek, Redhill, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Kommetjie, Ocean View,
Scarborough, Masiphumelele and Glencairn, needed to boil their water as the
water was not complaint with national standards.
That notice has since been lifted, and residents no longer need
to boil their water before drinking or cooking.
‘’Latest sampling results indicate that water quality is
compliant with national water quality standards (SANS 241). Consecutive sets of
sampling conducted by the City's Scientific Services Branch and Environmental
Health Service indicates that water is safe to drink,’’ said Siseko Mbandezi,
axcting mayco member for water and sanitation.
‘’Remedial measures were implemented immediately, and the
affected pipes were flushed and disinfected. A task team has assessed and
determined that the likely cause of the non-compliant samples was
cross-contamination of the samples and not related to contamination of source
water,’’ he added.
Mbandezi said further investigations are planned to assess the root cause in order to prevent a re-occurrence.
