A 16-year-old boy drowned on Tuesday after being swept into the sea off rocks from the shoreline while fishing with his 47-year-old father at Fransmanshoek, Vleesbaai, near Mossel Bay.
National
Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson, Craig Lambinon said Mossel Bay duty crew were informed of a
drowning in progress and the rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene
with the help of SAPS, Police Sea Borderline Control and WC Government Health
EMS.
According
to NSRI, the father was located coming out of the water along the shoreline and
he was taken into the care of NSRI and Police. He was unharmed.
“The teenager was also located in the water but sadly he was declared deceased
by paramedics. The body of the teenager has been taken into the care of Police
and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services,” said Craig Lambinon, NSRI
spokesperson.
The
Police have opened an inquest docket.
