Two suspects were arrested in Harare, Khayelitsha, on Friday night, after they were charged for dealing in liquor without a liquor license, manufacturing and bottling of alcohol without a liquor license.
The City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne
Dyason said officers spotted a vehicle that seemed heavily loaded, and
proceeded to search the car, where they found eight 25 litre sealed canisters
containing what officers thought were chemicals.
‘’The driver claimed it was water. The officers then took
the vehicle to Harare saps and went with the two suspects to their residence,’’
said Dyason.
He said that when officers searched the house, the
following items were found:

279 x 750ml bottles Old buck gin
·
2x 750ml Gordon's gin
·
1x 750ml Jameson whiskey
·
1x750ml Smirnoff vodka
·
17 x 25 litre Containers Chemicls
·
1 x 20 litre container chemicals
·
9 x large canvas bags of empty Old buck and
Gordon's gin 750ml bottles
·
3 x full boxes new gin bottle caps
·
1 x large bag of new gin bottle caps
·
1 x plastic bag of stickers/ lables for
Gordon's and Old buck gin
·
50 x folded gin cardboard boxes.
·
R2750 in cash
The Western Cape’s Police Oversight & Community Safety
MEC, Reagen Allen, in this week, conducted liquor inspections at liquor outlets
with authorities in Khayelitsha.
Allen said close to R7 million’s worth of fines were issues
for non-compliance in 2023.
