Disaster teams assisted flooded homes

The Disaster Risk Management Centre assisted thousands of people in the informal settlements.

Heavy rains and strong winds caused damaged in Places such Philippi, Masiphumele and other areas in the Peninsula.

The low-lying areas were flooded and roofs are being blown off houses in some areas.

Many trees have also been uprooted and have caused damage.

Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johanness said that about 3500 people were assisted.

He added that more heavy rains are predicted for Tuesday.
