The Disaster Risk Management Centre assisted thousands of people in the informal settlements.
Heavy rains and strong winds caused damaged in Places such Philippi , Masiphumele and other areas in the Peninsula .
The low-lying areas were flooded and roofs are being blown off houses in some areas.
Many trees have also been uprooted and have caused damage.
Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johanness said that about 3500 people were assisted.
He added that more heavy rains are predicted for Tuesday.
