Warning – new scam on the rise

The Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan and the Financial Intelligence Centre have issued a warning that South Africans should be careful about bogus letters or emails.

The letters use what looks like the logos of the FIC and other state institutions.

Gordhan says the letters are clearly an attempt to con South Africans to part with their money.

He urged people to report all suspected scams at the nearest police station.

The Financial Intelligence Centre says it is aware of the scams and has for some time been running a warning on its website.

The FIC is one of the seven institutions that report to the Ministry of Finance and does not pay out funds to anyone.
