New housing project opens door to 76-year-old beneficiary

Western Cape MEC of Human Settlements Bonginkosi Madikizela will today be handing over a house to a 76-year-old beneficiary in Site C, Khayelitsha. 

The house is part of a programme called People Housing Process, whereby beneficiaries play an active role in the project management and construction. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Bruce Oom said the project that is known as Masikuli is a project where the beneficiaries themselves have to take part in the different parts of the projects such as the project management and the employment of contractors.

He added that this to is to empower the people in the community, the beneficiaries receives a donation of energy efficient lights bulbs for their houses, which are 80% more efficient than regular light bulbs.

Oom said that these light bulbs will these people to save money over the year.

“We are very happy that people are receiving their houses and that there has also been a great contribution with light bulbs made possible through partnership with private donors,” Oom said.
