The Western Cape Liquor Authority together with the Provincial Department of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism will begin clamping down on non-compliant liquor licence holders across the province in the months to come.

Earlier this month the liquor authority conducted 246 liquor inspections including Oudtshoorn, Ladysmith, and Prince Albert.

This operation comes after scores of complaints from residents in the Southern Cape.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronwynne Jooste said just 89 premises were found to be fully complaint with the liquor authority and there were 157 non-complaint.

Jooste added that there is a need for licence holder to be educated about their responsibilities with regards to compliance.

“The liquor authority also inspected 24 establishments following complaints from the residents in the area. Based on the evidence found these case will be fully investigated” Jooste said.
