Two people died and 36 more were left
displaced during fires across the city over the weekend.
Places that were affected were
Mitchell’s Plain, Mfuleni and Khayelitsha where the two deceased were from. City’s Disaster Risk Management is assisting with food parcels, building material and blankets.
The victims are also receiving
psychosocial trauma counselling. Wilfred Solomons-Johanness said that the
Disaster Risk Management Centre urges people to exercise caution when working
with open flames.
“It is important people extinguish
any gas burners, candles, lamps and paraffin stoves before they go to sleep; and
also to isolate any electrical devices which may cause fires” Solomons-Johannes added.
