WC Education MEC Donald Grant response to court judgement

Lusanda Bill
21 December 2012

Western Cape MEC of Education Donald Grant today said the court order to halt the closure of 18 schools in the province is a loss of opportunity for the children.

MEC Donald Grant in a statement said the interdict does not automatically imply that the schools will remain open indefinitely.  The future will now depend on the outcome of the review application.

The Department is now studying the courts decision carefully and will be consulting with their legal team.

Meanwhile Provincial South African Democratic Teachers Union’s Jonavon Rustin said they are happy with the judgment.

Rustin added that they are disappointed that other unions did not join in the fight to halt the school closures.
