Urgent interdict to halt closure of 18 schools granted

Lusanda Bill
21 December 2012

The Western Cape High Court has granted an urgent interdict to halt the school closures of 18 schools in the province.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union, concerned parents and governing bodies of the schools concerned brought an interdict application against MEC of Education Donald Grant.

Save our Schools Campaign’s Magnus de Jongh said the judgment shows that they were right all along.

De Jongh added that the department acted unfairly to the 18 schools and that MEC Donald Grant and Helen Zille no nothing about what is going on in the communities.
