Department of social development: parents should not dump babies

The Western Cape Department of Social Development has urged parents not to dump their babies but rather find help with the department.

This follows an incident whereby police found a body of a new born baby dumped in a bush in Delft.

Dumping of babies has increased in recent month in South Africa.

Ministerial Spokesperson Melany Kuhn said there are structures in place, there are channels through which help can be given.

Kuhn added that it still remains the responsibility of the parents, to care for their children and that responsibility can never be outsourced to the state.

She added that however help is available where people need it, in certain circumstances.
