Lusanda Bill
14 November 2014

The Congress of South African Trade Union in the KwaZulu Natal said the expulsion of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa is a decision that was taken at the Central Executive Committee.

This follows reports that Cosatu in KZN supported the expulsion of the union. Cosatu’s Provincial Secretary Edwin Mkhize said in spite of challenges facing the federation Cosatu is still strong.

Mkhize said there is a view that is portrayed that Cosatu has collapsed but we just want to remind the workers, the progressive forces and South African at large that Cosatu has not collapsed and will not do so.

“Cosatu has the right to take decisions in its highest structure the CEC which is the highest structure between congresses of Cosatu” Mkhize added.
