Western Cape police are probing the death of a woman who died while hiking the Skeleton Gorge Trail on Table Mountain. Wilderness Search and Rescue Team (WSAR) were notified about an unconscious hiker shortly after 10 a.m. on Saturday.
According to WSAR spokesperson, Johann Marais, the
rest of the hiking party was brought down the mountain by rescue vehicles.
“A vehicle with two paramedics proceeded via
Constantia Nek and followed the jeep track into the back of Table Mountain to
get to the top of Skeleton Gorge,” said Marais.
The reason the woman lost consciousness is
still unknown at this stage.
‘’Following the death, the Western Cape police
have opened an inquest docket and the circumstances surrounding the incident
are being investigated,’’ says police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.
Marais has cautioned the public to remain
cautious when embarking on hikes or strolls.
