Eskom has announced that Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 9p.m on Monday until 5a.m on Tuesday, to ‘’conserve and replenish emergency reserves.’’
In a statement, the ailing power utility said
that since midnight, the parastatal lost a unit each at Camden, Kusile, Duvha
and Matla power stations. It added that the return of a unit at Kusile and two
units at Majuba power stations are delayed.
Furthermore, the City of Cape Town announced
that city-supplied customers will also load shed on stage 2.
Eskom warned that it could implement load
shedding at short notice should the situation worsen
‘’Further breakdowns could force Eskom to
implement loadshedding sooner or to extend the loadshedding beyond Tuesday
morning. Total breakdowns amount to 16 261MW while planned maintenance is 5
350MW of capacity as we continue with the reliability maintenance.’’
Eskom appealed to consumers to reduce the usage
of electricity and to switch off non-essential items.
