Mowbray police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property involving private vehicle, after matriculants allegedly went around the school, in what seemed like Guy Fawkes ‘celebrations’.
The Western Cape’s Education Department (WCED) confirmed
that learners threw flower bombs, eggs and bricks.
WCED spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond, said several window
panes were also broken and walls damaged.
‘’Fire extinguishes were also allegedly set off. The
school immediately initiated its emergency procedures and within minutes SAPS,
fire department and EMS were on the scene. SAPS detained seven learners.’’
‘’An investigation is now underway, with some of the
identified learners issued with suspension letters and will face a disciplinary
hearing,’’ added Hammond.
It is unclear what the commotion was about.
Meanwhile, SAPS has asked anyone with information that can
assist with the investigation to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111
