Police Minister, Bheki Cele, has called for a collective approach to solve the challenges of the taxi industry in the Western Cape.
This follows a violent protest by taxi operators in
Cape Town on Tuesday.
The taxi industry in the province alleges that authorities
are treating them unfairly and are always harassing them.
Several minibus taxis were impounded in the CBD, resulting
in clashes between taxi operators, the police and law enforcement officials.
Cele stated that he will be meeting with local taxi
associations and the provincial government to find the underlying cause of the
matter.
"Because it looks like there are issues that after
speaking to them, there are genuine issues that they're raising that we'll have
to speak with the government."
