The National Transport Department says as part of the rolling enforcement plan, it has stopped at least four million vehicles since October.
This gives each province a target to reach in terms of how many vehicles they stop each month.
Initial figures suggest that the death toll on the country’s roads for the festive season stands at over two-hundred.
Department spokesperson Logan Maistry says they are also increasing operations targeting public transport vehicles.
