President Jacob Zuma speaking at a gathering in Mpendle the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands urged South Africans to stand up and fight poverty.
Zuma said communities should form themselves into groups and be part of government's poverty improvement programmes.
Mpendle is one of many areas in the country that has a high level of unemployment and most people are surviving on social grants.
President Zuma says funds are available to help organised groups who want to start projects to uplift themselves.
