A 43-year-old farm worker was severely injured when a gas cylinder exploded on a farm in Eston this morning.
ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks says the cause of the accident is not yet known but the man sustained 40% burns on his face, back and arms when the cylinder exploded.
The man was working with the cylinder on the farm near Pietermaritzburg when it exploded.
Banks said, "Advanced life support intervention was performed and burn shields had to be placed onto the affected areas.”
He was transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic.
