The National Sea Rescue Institute on Sunday rescued six people who were caught up in a rip current and being swept out of the sea and one person is still missing.

The near drowning incidents took place in Monwabisi Beach while Strandfontein volunteer sea rescue duty crews were conducting a routine patrol of beaches on the False Bay coast.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the six people were rescued but the one man was still missing and the police divers are still searching.

Lambinon added that the 27 year-old man is still not known where is he from and he has not been recovered and he is presumed dead.
