WCape weekend roadblocks stats

Over the past weekend, the Western Cape Traffic Department held 24 road blocks through out the province.

3 199 vehicles were stopped and tested 1641 drivers for alcohol.

19 drunk drivers were arrested, and the highest alcohol reading was 1.24 mg/l.

R196 800 was the total amount of fines was issued, 3206 drivers were prosecuted for driving above the speed limit. 

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said that the highest speed recorded over the weekend was 170 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.

“19 people died over this period” Africa said.
