A 31-year-old man was arrested in Oudtshoorn, on Boxing Day, on a charge of assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm and child abuse.
According to Southern Cape police, it is alleged that the
suspect assaulted his one-year-old boy on Christmas Eve at Heideblom Lane,
Bridgeton in Oudtshoorn.
The accused made his first court appearance on 28 December
2022 on the mentioned charge. The case was postponed to 04 January 2022 for
further investigation. He was remanded in custody.
‘’A video of the incident has been shared on various social
media platforms. The public is also urged to refrain from circulating the video
in the interest to protect the identity of the victim,’’ said Sergeant Christopher
Spies.
Western Cape police management warned those who threatens
the safety of children that they will face the full might of the law once
arrested.
