Education trade unions have threatened to strike in the Western Cape

Teacher trade unions in the Western Cape have warned of a potential strike if proposals to reduce teacher positions are implemented.

The provincial Department of Education has stated that several contract teaching roles will not be renewed next year due to budget reductions from the national government.

More than 2,400 teachers are projected to be impacted by these cuts. Teacher unions argue that these reductions will make overcrowding in the classrooms worse.
