President Jacob Zuma says the Young Communist League will come out out of its chaotic congress strong and united.
This follows a chaotic weekend for the congress where police had to be called in to restore order violence broke out between delegates in Mafikeng in the North West.
It is reported that at least four delegates were hospitalised and journalists were caught up in the fight.
President Zuma appealed to delegates to forge ahead with efforts to build unity, adding that he knew Communists as being disciplined and honest.
The League’s Buti Manamela was re-elected as national secretary at the conference.
His rival Khaye Nkwanyane was appointed as national chairperson in the name of unity.
Nkwanyane’s supporters are being blamed for the violence.
