A family of eight people, including a nine-month-old baby, burnt to death in Pinetown.
Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said it appears as if they were first shot before their home was set alight.
Mdunge said, "We found empty petrol containers, match sticks outside the house. I was told 9mm pistol cartridges were also discovered inside the house, but fire experts are still busy in there."
The case has been handed over to the investigation unit.
