African National Congress Regional Executive Committee member Andile Lili yesterday said, there was nothing unusual about Kgalema Motlanthe’s silence on whether he will accept the nomination for the ANC’s presidency job.

He said Motlanthe's supporters are heading to Mangaung with the intention of unseating President Jacob Zuma.

The ANC in the Western Cape has backed Motlanthe to lead the party.

The province's nominations conference buckled twice because of problems with the verification of branch delegates.

But it is widely expected that Zuma will retain his position thanks to support from majority of the provinces.

Lili said he thinks Mothlante is one of those ANC leaders like Oliver Thambo and former President Madela, who’s attitude towards election to leading the party, was humble.

“Mothlante was approached to stand to the position of the Secretary General of the ANC by the senior leaders of the ANC, he innitially refused but later he accepted; so he is that kind of person” Lali added.
