Nine people were rescued this morning at Umbilo river in Durban.

Reports indicate that these homeless people were sleeping under the M4 Bridge and they got trapped in the river by floods when they tried to cross the river.

Netcare Limited Spokesperson Chris Botha said the rescuers had to rescue one person at a time using a rope across the river.

Botha said all these people have been taken to a place of safety and no one was injured.
