20-year-old arrested for cable theft

A 20-year-old man appeared in the Strand Magistrate Court for being in possession of stolen cable. 

Captain FC van Wyk said information from the Neighbourhood Watch stated that there was an alleged theft in progress in Gustrouw Avenue in Strand. 

Police then followed up on the information. 

On the arrival on scene they found that a man on the electrical pole busy cutting the cable. When the suspect saw the police, he came down and ran.

“Members gave chase and the 20 year old man was subsequently found hiding in the rubbish bin on premises.

He was arrested on possession of stolen property and the cable is approximately 60 mitres in length,” Van Wyk added.
