The South African Municipal Workers Union in the
Eastern Cape has described the expulsion of the National Union of Metalworkers
of South Africa from the Congress of South African Trade Union as an
embarrassment.
Samwu Provincial Secretary Siphiwo Ndunyana said the
only solution to salvage this federation is to go for a Special National
Congress.
Numsa was on Saturday expelled from Cosatu at a
special central executive committee.
“The issue that were raised by Numsa are the same
issue we have also been raising. The defense of Cosatu against those who want
to follow a neo-liberal attender, not to be vocal on issues that affecting
workers, in particular the radical economic transformation
These are not personal issues, these are the issues
about the soul and heart of the federation, in particular the political and
ideological direction Numsa,” Ndunyana added.
