South African Police Service together with Home Affairs and SARS are working together monitoring drug smuggling in our ports of entry, particularly the OR Tambo International Airport.

Police’s Solomon Makgale said during this time of the year they experience high consumption of drugs.

Makgale said we have been very successful achieving a number of convictions during the month of October, and we will continue to monitor the dockets to ensure that they are ready for court and work very closely with the prosecution team to ensure that we achieve convictions.

“Crime particularly drugs contributes to other forms of crime.  So people who consume drugs engage in other behaviours.  It is very important to get to the bottom of drug distribution in our country” Makgale added.
