An accident this morning in Pietermaritzburg has left one person dead and seven injured.

This is after a light motor vehicle collided into the side of a bakkie, which resulted in the bakkie overturning on impact and the passengers being ejected out of the vehicle.

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Chris Botha said a woman died on the scene due to the very intensive injuries that she had sustained.

Botha said four people had sustained serious injuries and three had sustained minor injuries and did not require any medical treatment.

Meanwhile in another accident on the N2 south near Umdloti a collision involving three vehicles left six people injured.

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Chris Botha said when paramedics arrived on the scene the entire roadway was blocked.

Botha said the six people injured sustained minor to serious injuries and were transported to hospital for the medical care that they required.

The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
