Two Chinese nationals and one Congolese were arrested following an abalone bust at a warehouse in Philippi.

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries together with the police followed up on a tip-off where they found dried and wet abalone.

The departments Lionel Adendorf said about 5 000 wet abalone and about 14 000 dried abalone were confiscated.

Adendorf said the department is very happy with the success that it could report with the help of the community, and we would continue to call on the community to help us in our efforts to stem the tide against abalone poaching.

The three are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court on Monday.
