The Overberg District Municipality is set to receive over one-billion rand of Infrastructure investment.
This comes after MEC for Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, presented the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework Infrastructure budget last week. The budget will be spent on 75 infrastructure projects.
The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure will invest R1.8 billion over the following three fiscal years. A large portion of the budget will go toward R1.48 billion worth of road development projects. These projects will have locations in Draaiberg, De Hoop, Bredasdorp, and Botrivier, among other places.
The Department will also spend over R29 million on public works and general infrastructure. Simmers says much of the budget will be invested in road infrastructure projects.
“Having travelled and visited much of our roads and infrastructure projects as well as engaged various stakeholders, I am certain that with this budget we will continue to build renewed hope in this region through service delivery. The investment in various infrastructure projects will empower and contribute to the well-being of many citizens in the Overberg region,” said Simmers.
When commenting on the budget Executive Mayor of the Overberg District Municipality, Andries Franken, said that the district welcomes the transparency with which the department had approached them.
“The continued open communication and collaborative efforts between these two spheres of government will be of great benefit to the Overberg District. This is evident in the existing and ongoing infrastructure projects in our region, that even tourists have come to enjoy,” said Franken.
